Comic Life App

| 4 Comments

Now that we have a trolley of ipads to share between our Year 3 and 4 Phase, I am eager to find ways in which to use them to support learning in the classroom.

Exploring the range of apps installed, I was particularly thinking of ways to raise the standard of writing using technology.

Launching our new writing focus, Dreamtime Stories, gave us the opportunity to use the Comic Life App. The children retold some traditional Aboriginal stories , which were originally told to explain creation or to teach a lesson.

The Steps to the Stars were;

  • Summarise the key parts of the stories
  • Use a range of connectives, (time and causal) as sentence openers

Presenting their work in this app really motivated the children and they were highly engaged in the task. The images used were taken from Google images and captured as screen shots on the iPad camera roll.

Using this app really hooked my class and I would highly recommend it to other teachers who are interested in increasing their use of technology in their literacy teaching. The children quickly learnt how to use it, and I am sure that you will agree that the end result is pretty impressive!
